SPEECH BY AG. CHIEF EXECUTIVE DURING THE INDUCTION PROGRAMME OF THE NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE
Prior to his appointment, Prof. Nii Ashie Kotey was the Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana and the Ag. Director, Ghana Law School.
Prof. Ashie Kotey has an LLB degree from the University of Ghana, LLM and Ph.D degrees from the University of London.
He is a Specialist in forestry, natural resources and environmental Law and for twenty years had been associated with the forestry sector consulting and researching in the area of Forest Policy, Law and Management.
Between 1991 and 1993 he was based at the then Forestry Department as a Consultant for the Forest Resource Management Project on the study of Incentives for the Sustainable Management of the High Forest of Ghana.
Between 1995 and 1998 he worked with a team including the late Johnny Francois and J.G.K. Owusu on the International Institute for Environment and Development sponsored Policies that work for Forest and People project. The report of the study, falling into Place is a critical examination of forest policy and management in Ghana since colonial times.
He has been a member of many national committee including the Technical Working Group of the National Committee on Forest Management Certification and Committee on the Legal Framework for Collaborative Forest Management in Ghana. he chaired the ministerial advisory committee on forest policy, is a member of the Land Policy Steering Committee of the Ghana Land Administration Project and of the governing board of the National Petroleum Authority.
