In pursuance of
the Timber
Resources Management Act, 1997 (Act 547), Timber
Resources Management (Amendment) Act, 2002 (Act
617), Timber
Resources Management Regulations, 1998 (LI 1649) and Timber
Resource Management (Amendment) Regulations 2003
(LI 1721), competitive bidding for TUCs areas
took place on the 30th of July 2004
at the Ghana Civil Servants Association Auditorium.
This
was the second phase of the remaining 50 lots out
of the 69 advertised TUC areas that were put up
for bidding. The lots were made up of
eleven (11) lots from the previous bidding which
were not won in the first phase and forty nine
(439) ots new ones. The 50 lots were made up of
three forest reserves and forty-seven off reserve
areas.
Messrs Franco Timber Limited filed an Order for
interim injunction on four lots two of which were
included in the lots advertised for bidding. These
were Lineso off-reserve (lot 24) and Abuom off-reserve
(lot 52). Consequently these lots were withdrawn
from the bidding. Companies who had purchased prospectuses/bidding
forms for these lots were informed about the court
injunction and given the option to either replace
them or have their monies refunded. This brought
the total number of lots put for bidding to forty-eight
(48).
